FIRA TOWN

Fira is the vibrant capital of the island, lying on the lap of the caldera, and is the biggest and most cosmopolitan settlement of Santorini. The town showcases breathtaking views, thanks to its location on the western edge and at the center of the island, right across the volcano and the two volcanic islets of Palaia Kammeni and Nea Kammeni. Spend your days strolling around the town’s picturesque, cobble-stoned alleys, to discover quaint mansions, whitewashed houses, modern shops, delightful restaurants, traditional taverns, and of course, a buzzing nightlife!

Among Fira’s wonderful sites, is the Megaro Gyzi Cultural Center that presents a variety of art collections and houses several cultural events every summer, such as concerts and theatrical performances. The town also boasts quaint churches and chapels and the two cathedrals of Fira are definitely worth visiting. The Archaeological Museum of Thera and the Museum of Prehistoric Thera feature a spectacular exhibition of vestiges and historical items from the whole island, and are not to be missed if you wish to get to know the rich history of magical Santorini.
