SANTORINI BEACHES
The beaches of Santorini are distinctively distinguishable from other beaches in Greece, due to their particular geological framework. Red sand and black volcanic pebbles characterize the majority of the beaches, and the dramatic rock formations provide an impressive setting to gaze at while swimming or sunbathing. Many of these diverse beaches scattered all over the island are well-organized, some even cosmopolitan, combining relaxation with entertainment options. There are also less famous, secluded beaches that are ideal for families, and if you chart a yacht, it can take you to remote, pristine beaches for tranquil private moments by the sea.
The most famous beach of the island is probably Kamari Beach – a long black strand of sand with crystal clear waters, organized with all kinds of facilities, including water-sports, and many shops, making it an ideal choice to enjoy the sun and the sea, any time of the day. Other famous black sanded beaches with exceptional cerulean waters, are Perissa and Perivolos, lying very close to each other, offering perfect environments to enjoy fun moments with your friends or family. A more peaceful, but also an organized beach, is the lunar-like Vlychada, offering an extraordinary, large sandy beachfront with towering white cliffs, resembling the patterns of stalagmites. Monolithos beach is ideal for children, as it has shallow waters, fine sand, and a serene atmosphere. The most photographed beach of Santorini, the Red beach, flaunts steep, coppery-red cliffs and red pebbly sand, vividly contrasted by the azure-blue waters of the Aegean. This narrow beach has a very interesting seabed, rendering it perfect for snorkeling too.
